Sechele tipped to shine in Mauritius
Lesotho's number one triple jumper Lerato Sechele leaves for the Mauritius athletics event today. The Mauritius International Meet, as the competition is dubbed begins this Saturday and will come to an end on Sunday. According to the Lesotho Amateur Athletics Association (LAAA)'s Public Relations Officer, Sejanamane Maphathe, the Mauritius International Meet would be very crucial for Sechele in preparation of the upcoming Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Senior Championships which will be held in Nigeria next month. The main focus for Sechele and LAAA is also for the triple jumper to qualify for this year's International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Continental Cup scheduled for September in Czech Republic. To qualify for the Continental Cup, Maphathe says Sechele must win or at least appear on second position in the triple jump competition in Nigeria."She must put up a good performance in the African Senior Championships in order for her to qualify for the Continental Cup, as only the winner and the runner-up normally qualify for the event," Maphathe says. Sechele nearly won bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in April this year, where she appeared on fourth position in the triple jump contest. Maphathe says this means her chances of becoming the champion at the Mauritius International Meet and CAA Senior Champions are very high.
