Kingdom Select women side to date Mangaung Rugby Club
Kingdom Select women rugby side are visiting Mangaung Rugby Club for a test match in Bloemfontein, South Africa this Saturday. Mangaung are the champions of the Free State women league and according to the Federation of Lesotho Rugby (FLR) secretary general, Lits’itso Motseremeli, the main purpose with the Mangaung test match is for the Kingdom select women side to be used to play against strong teams since the plan is to have them competing against other national teams in the region and continent in the near future. “We are preparing for a women national team to start to be playing international test matches very soon, just like the men side Likatola,” said Mots’eremeli in an interview with the sport yesterday. Motseremeli said this is going to be the second test match for the Kingdom Select women side after their 2015 first test match against Eastern Free State which he said they the Lesotho side lost 38-18. Kingdom Select coach Roy Nyasha said they started assembling the team last year in November. “This is the first test game (after three years) we are preparing and we are very much prepared,” Nyasha said. “We had actually started preparing in November last year. We have good players and the game plan is in place.”Nyasha is banking on players like the Maseru Warriors fly-half Thato Liphafa who is the captain of the select team. Liphafa is the highest tries scorer in a women rugby league competition, All 4-one Sports Lesotho Women Rugby Championship. Another player who Nyasha is pinning hope on is Lesia Wolves strum-half Mokias Phasumane. Nyasha said after the Mangaung test match his side would play another Free State team, University of Free State rugby side later this month. “In fact, we were supposed to be playing the University of Free State before but we had postponed it so that we could play Mangaung first,” Nyasha said. He said after the Magaung and University of Free State test matches they will be looking to play their first international test matches against Swaziland and Zimbabwe.
