Makateng suffers serious concussion

Likuena striker Katleho Makateng sustained a serious concussion in an international practice match against Namibia at Wits Stadium in South Africa yesterday.

According to the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA), Makateng suffered a concussion in the opening minutes of the match.

LeFA had indicated in its media statement released last night that the match hat to be halted for over 30 minutes as Makateng was receiving medical attention and eventually admitted to at Netcare Milpark Hospital.

However, the local football mother-body said had been discharged from the hospital at the same day.

“Likuena striker Katleho Makateng has been discharged from hospital having suffered a severe concussion in the opening minutes of the international practice match between Lesotho and Namibia played at Wits Stadium in Johannesburg,” reads LeFA media statement.

The statement further reads: “The Lesotho Football Association would like to express its gratitude to the Namibian Football Association (NFA) along with the Netcare Emergency Medical Services for their support during a moment of panic and discomfort for the Lesotho team.”

Likuena beat Namibia 2-1. The Lesotho team’s two goals were netted by Jane Thabantšo and Retšelisitsoe Mopeli in the second half respectively.

The Namibia practice match formed part of Likuena’s preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Comoros on June 3 and Ivory Coast on June 7 respectively.

Likuena will fine-tune their preparation for the two AFCON matches with an international friendly match against Ethiopia away tomorrow.

The Lesotho team is also pitted against Zambia in Group H of the AFCON qualifiers.

Likuena eliminated Seychelles from the qualifiers after beating them 3-1 in the second leg of the preliminary stage following a goalless draw in the first leg.
